Session One 2016

We started the class off with a prayer and then a getting-to-know-you session. Student shared a little bit about themselves. Then Mrs Farrar and I each brought a gift bag with a few things which represent what is important to us.
As homework for next week, I gave each student a paper bag so that they could put some gifts to represent whatever THEY treasure.
We followed that up with a discussion of faith. The essential question was, "Who is Jesus?" I wasn't searching for the rote answers, "Our Lord and Savior" or "Son of God". Though the rote answers are true, I wanted it to come from the heart. Parents, you would be so proud of your children. They pointed out facts and events from Jesus's life here on Earth. Then they reflected on those details and summarize that: He was all-powerful because he could calm the storms, walk on water, and raise the Dead. They said that Jesus was compassionate because he healed the sick, was kind to the outcasts and the poor, and He even forgave his persecutors. Then one student summed it up with, "Really, when you think 'bout it, He was 'love from God'."
Then the bell rang.
